Like many fellow Cubans before him, Benjamin Acosta decided that the United States would present greater opportunities in education and business. So at a young age, he moved to Miami. He knew once he left, there would be no going back for many years. Political reasons.
Soon after arriving in Miami, Acosta graduated with honors from Florida International University. He then obtained a prestigious masters’ degree in business administration from Georgetown, and with an appetite for learning and problem-solving, Acosta was a project manager, leading large teams and operating budgets upwards of $8.7 million.
He also had a real estate license since 2007, so when Acosta took a vacation to the Mayan Riviera a few years back, he was struck with inspiration. He fell hard for the Caribbean-coast and knew right away. He was going to move to Mexico. He was going to transfer his real estate career there. No looking back, especially since the Mayan Riviera is close to home in Cuba and it’s easier to travel back and forth from Mexico.

Acosta Fell in Love With Mexico, Then Joined eXp Realty
Today, Acosta is a player in the Mexican Caribbean market. He started with the Mexican real estate development company MIKA, but knew that eXp Realty would provide the borderless brokerage he and his developers partners needed.
“The Mayan Riviera Market and the Yucatan market are emerging rapidly and I have been able to experience it first-hand throughout seven years already. Clients get fast home valuation and high ROI, tax efficiency and the cost of living. It’s also an expat friendly destination. Therefore, we have people from all walks of life and countries. It’s right now one of the most profitable places to invest in Mexico and continues to grow with a second airport coming up and a train that will connect a few states in the southern area of Mexico,’’ he said.
Acosta closed $10 million in U.S. dollars in 2021. Since joining eXp, his team of eXp agents in Quintana Roo and remote collaborators is at 15 and rising.
In addition to his commitment to Mexico by becoming a Mexican citizen, Acosta is committed to securing safety and housing for gay buyers. He holds certification in Sexual Diversity and Human Rights – a notable achievement given Mexico’s poor rating in human rights by Human Rights Watch.
For Acosta, every month is Pride Month. He has a goal to sell at least one condo a month to LGBTQ+ buyers to further integrate Mexico’s Gulf Coast resort and destination cities. As a gay man with a passion for human rights and equal access to housing, Benjamin takes pride in helping to broaden the horizon of developers he works with.
